The spare pin on the 1 1/2″ PVC S.U. Ball Valve MIP X SKT is a tool for valve servicing/repair (remove from handle to assist in pin removal when servicing valve seat). The union nut load does not transfer onto the ball seat, thereby providing the user with easy handle operation, even if the valve has not operated for a long period.
